Drugs That Amp You Up

Stimulants, or drugs that “amp someone up”, are a class of drugs that produce a short-term increase of activity in a person’s body. Common stimulants discussed in this section include cocaine, caffeine, nicotine, and amphetamines. In addition to this, anabolic steroids are also included in this section. Anabolic steroids amp someone up because they bind to a person’s DNA, which causes cells to produce more proteins, allowing a person to gain muscle and bulk up. The chapters in this section explain what the particular drug is, how it works in the body, the history and current state of the drug in the United States, and any associated health or safety risks.
