Drug Policy

Drug policy is a complex and long-debated topic of discussion. Many government administrations have tried to address all the different sides and perspectives, while some have succeeded and some failed. Regardless, the policy and laws surrounding drugs and substance abuse greatly impact communities around the country and the world. The following chapters will discuss certain aspects of this policy, such as substance abuse and mental disorders’ co-occurrence. The failure of treatments to address both and the negative stereotypes affecting those inflicted by both are important and relevant to the discussion. Also outlined are the policy failures, specifically noting the shortcomings of the Reagan administration.
