Medical Technology

In the field of medicine, technology has been a key aspect in transforming the healthcare industry into something incredible. The advancements in medical technology have enabled humans to live longer, therefore greatly influencing the advancement of technology in other fields. For example, the diagnostic imaging machinery discussed later in this chapter are not only used to diagnose injuries, but also in archaeology and security purposes. Some of the multiple technologies advancing in the field of medicine include diagnostic imaging tools, telehealth, vaccines, blockchain security, genetic engineering, 3D bioprinting, and wearable technologies. To understand the importance of these technologies, we must evaluate the history, present, and future impacts each of these technologies have on science and society. There are endless possibilities of where medical technology may go in the future, as we have already done things that humans never deemed possible in the past.
