The Baby Boomer Generation
Those born between 1946 and 1964 became known as the baby boomer generation. These individuals started to reach adulthood and use technology throughout the late 60s to early 80s. They are often stereotyped as stubborn and more resistant to change, which may be due to the fact that they lived during a time of war and disparity. Thus, these people experienced and contributed to life changing events like the Space Race, the moon landing, Vietnam War, the Counterculture movement, the Civil Rights movement, and the anti-nuclear movement. Through their youth, this generation experienced many culturally significant events. However, they are now perceived as head-strong individuals who are apprehensive to try new things in today’s society and are now commonly referred to as the “Boomers.”
This post-war generation is also known to be goal-centric and competitive. Examples are the Space Race and the race to create new military technologies. Yet during these times, people needed different medical technologies like the artificial heart and contraceptives to combat new issues and increase their quality of life. Turbulent energy shortages prompted new production and energy conservation developments, while transportation developments connected people to travel and commute. Audio technologies also allowed people to connect through popular culture, which spread through music. While these technologies are only a few that influenced this generation, these are among the most impactful on the baby boomer generation.
