The Millennial Generation

The Millennial generation, also known as Generation Y, consists of people born between 1981-1996. The decades to follow, mostly until 2010, had a colossal impact on Millennials’ culture that shaped their behaviors and attitudes. Some of the biggest events that impacted this generation were the Great Recession, 9/11, and the expansion of social media and the internet. The Millennial Generation was the first to grow up in a technology centered world and had to learn to adapt and live in this new culture. Some common stereotypes are that they are digital natives, reliant on technology, expect convenience, and strive to improve social challenges they witness.

While this is not an extensive list of all the technologies that influenced Millennials, this chapter will be highlighting home computers, Global Positioning System, cell phones/texting, gaming consoles, World Wide Web, and TSA. We chose these because they made the most prominent impact on the behaviors of Millennials in general.
