PSYCHOSOCIAL DISTRESS and DISORDERS

This section focuses on the psychosocial distress and disorders among men. The chapters within this section dive into the various mental health issues that plague men across various social identities. They are important because raising awareness around the problem is the first step towards a more mentally healthy male population.

Stress and Anxiety educates readers on the issues of stress and anxiety at the intersection of income and race/ethnicity.

Anxiety Among Male Athletes educates readers on the issue of anxiety among male athletes. It discusses the many different ways male athletes may experience anxiety and attempts to address some of the causal factors such as performance expectations and competition anxiety. One issue the chapter raises is that there are inadequate healthcare options for athletes to seek in order to combat these problems.

Depression in Male College Students deals with the issue of depression amongst male college students at the intersection of race and ethnicity. The chapter does a good job of reviewing the statistics of each demographic and the effect depression has on them at the college level.

This next chapter discusses a topic that is often not thought about within the male demographic, the topic of Eating Disorders. This chapter analyzes eating disorders at the intersections of age and income.

The fifth chapter in this section talks about the Unhealthy Drinking Habits of the male population and some of the corresponding health issues it can cause. The chapter addresses the issue of unhealthy drinking habits amongst men at the intersections of race and income.

Substance Abuse in Rural Communities discusses the abuse of individual drugs among rural men at the intersections of socioeconomic status and age.

The final chapter in this section addresses one of the biggest mental health issues among men in America today, Antisocial Personality Disorder. Some of the common symptoms being repeated participation in reckless or criminal behaviors. The issue is analyzed at the intersections of race and age/life stage.
